Robotic lung surgery

Lobectomy - Segmentectomy - Resection of metastases from other cancers

I have been part of  the team performed the first robotic lung procedure in London (December 2015). Our team is one of the very few in London and United Kingdom fully trained and qualified to perform chest surgery with the Intuitive Da Vinci Robotic System.

 What Is Robotic Lung Surgery?

Robotic lung surgery is a minimally invasive technique used to treat conditions affecting the lungs, such as lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, and other chest diseases. Using the Da Vinci robotic surgical system, the surgeon performs the operation through a few small incisions, controlling robotic arms with precision instruments and a high-definition 3D camera.

Unlike traditional open surgery, which requires a large incision and spreading of the ribs, robotic surgery allows for greater accuracy, enhanced dexterity, and improved visualisation of delicate structures inside the chest. This technique is particularly effective for lung resections, including lobectomies, segmentectomies, and biopsies.

Benefits of Robotic Lung Surgery:

  • Smaller incisions and less scarring

  • Reduced postoperative pain

  • Lower risk of complications

  • Shorter hospital stay

  • Faster recovery and return to normal activities
